Natalie Bronfman studied and graduated Art History, Costume & Set Design at Parsons School
of Design (NYC, USA), and at the Accademia di Costume e Moda (Rome, Italy). After completing her studies, Bronfman worked in Rome doing freelance costume work in
theatre & opera, eventually moving to Toronto Canada, to work for a time at the Canadian
Opera Company.
After 2 decades and countless projects of having worked with some of the top Costume
Designers worldwide and having done some costume designed shows of her own, she was
given the opportunity to design The Handmaid’s Tale.
It has been one of the best experiences to date. The opportunity to be allowed to build &
develop characters through their clothing then translated onto the screen, has been most
satisfying. From the conversations had with the actors wearing the clothing, to fulfilling the
director’s vision into a tangible object on the screen, all of this has been incredible. The
research and applicable psychology of each detail in a garment, the drawing, the construction,
the fittings, and then having it appear on the screen. An incredible voyage.
